Sexuality is one of the criteria of freedom and quality of life. It is a notion of human existence that combines world perception and outlook through which personality is revealed. Going by Freud, the meaning of sexuality cannot be grasped without understanding personality and his/her sexual desires.
Sexual activity is the only pair function wherein a man and a woman participate, therefore, sexual problems should be considered in a general context. Nevertheless, there is a tendency with sexologists to consider women’s health problems (sexual ones, in particular) through understanding men’s problems. In the current article let me talk about women’s health problems without referring to existing knowledge on men’s health. The information below comes from a number of researches on women’s sexual health that were conducted throughout Europe.
Speaking about women’s health problems I would like to admit, first of all, that the rate of sexual dysfunction among women of different age and social groups varies from 28.9 to 58.5 % and increases as a woman grows old. Thus, among female patients of reproductive age (the first group) sexual dysfunctions are observed in 25. 0% and among women of menopause age (the second group) they are observed in 77.8 %. Researches show that, on average, representatives of the first group started their sexual life at the age of 16 and of the second one at the age of 19.
Different societal changes contributed to liberalization of sexual intercourse and earlier start of sexual activity. Women from 25 to 45 admit earlier start of their sexual life if compared to women of 55-64 years old. About women’s health problems:
- the first group – women can suffer from arousal disorders, anorgasmia, dyspareunia;
- the second group – women can suffer from absence of sexual desire, arousal disorders, and a combination of other sexual disorders.
Studies show that 30 % of patients from the first group and 77 % from the second one have orgasm just in 50 % of sexual intercourse. Speaking about women’s health problems of the type, I should admit that sexual disorders often result from deep depression, low spirits, and different neuroses that worsen the quality of life. Though disharmony in sexual relationships with men is rather obvious in most cases, women do not pay special attention to it and do not ask for special help which leads to greater problems. Please, do not disregard the importance of professional health care in your life, follow the general health tips your doctor provides you with and you will live a healthy life.
Specialized help is needed to sustain sexual and reproductive health, to establish harmony in sexual relationships and improve the quality of family life. I really hope that this article about women’s health problems will encourage you to take care of yourself and of the people around you.
